Enhanced Reporting Capabilities to Help San Diego Regional Transportation Network Reduce Energy Costs, Lower Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Increase Renewable Energy Generation
North County Transit District (NCTD), the agency responsible for public transportation in North San Diego County, CA, selected Oracle to support its sustainability reporting goals. A vital part of San Diego’s regional transportation network, NCTD serves more than 12 million passengers annually through a family of transit services, including bus system, commuter rail service, paratransit and light rail.
To meet the requirements of the American Public Transportation Association’s Commitment to Sustainability program, NCTD needed a dedicated system that could automate and streamline the collection and analysis of sustainability metrics including greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption. To automate its sustainability reporting, NCTD selected Oracle Environmental Accounting and Reporting and Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE) to replace its previous manual, time-consuming and expensive process for collecting and calculating environmental metrics.
Through the integration with Oracle’s JD Edwards EnterpriseOne ERP system, NCTD expects the new Oracle system will provide it with actionable data to help reduce energy costs, lower greenhouse gas emissions, decrease waste and increase renewable energy generation.
NCTD is in the process of implementing Oracle Environmental Accounting and Reporting for JD Edwards EnterpriseOne with the help of TeamCain, a Gold level partner in Oracle PartnerNetwork (OPN).
North County Transit District’s Chief Technology and Sustainability Officer, Angela Miller, is scheduled to participate in an Oracle webinar on January 26, 2012 to provide details about the implementation. Register for the webinar here.
“North County Transit District is committed to a long-term sustainability plan that will both decrease our environmental impact and reduce our operating expenses,” said Chief Technology and Sustainability Officer, Angela Miller. “We recently signed the American Public Transportation Association’s Commitment to Sustainability and will measure our progress with performance goals like reduced energy costs, lower greenhouse gas emissions and increased renewable energy generation. Our investment in Oracle Environmental Accounting and Reporting will help us determine our current sustainability metrics and find opportunities to exceed our targets.”
“Oracle Enterprise Accounting and Reporting is part of a broad-based set of capabilities that Oracle has developed to address the growing needs of Sustainability,” said Jon Chorley, chief sustainability officer, Oracle. “Organizations such as North County Transit District can use these solutions within the context of their normal operational activities to deliver concrete benefits to their stakeholders, to the environment, and to their own bottom line.”
