While your enterprise systems may already be in the cloud, you might be wondering what new cloud advancements to expect in the next few years that could solve some of your current pain points.

It’s important to stay ahead of the curve, so today we’re sharing some of our predictions for the future

Future Technology Trends in Cloud Computing

1. Increased Focus on Security

Cloud ERP technology has the potential to increase the speed and productivity of your organization. However, it is also vulnerable to cyber attacks. One of these attacks is an advanced persistent threat (APT). In this attack, an intruder is able to establish a concealed presence within a cloud network and uses this access to steal data over a period of time.

As more organizations rely on cloud-based services, spending will increase on security tools and services. Spending on cloud security is expected to increase by as much as 26.8% in 2023.

Additionally, security teams will be faced with the challenge of securing globally distributed networks and working with cloud providers. They will need to move from a perimeter-focused security approach to methodologies that can recognize the ever-shifting nature of cloud computing.

2. Increased Use of Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence technologies require large amounts of processing power, which is ideally suited to cloud computing. Many new AI platforms are currently being released as cloud-based solutions, giving access to smaller businesses that cannot afford their own infrastructure.

At the same time, artificial intelligence will be incorporated further into cloud security. Predictive analytics and Big Data processing will power new cloud security tools.

3. Increased Popularity of Multi-cloud and Hybrid Solutions

In today’s fast-paced and highly competitive market, more businesses are demanding customization and agility from their technology providers.

In a multi-cloud environment, the business relies on multiple cloud-hosting services rather than a single provider. This enables organizations to mitigate risks associated with being locked into a single vendor.

Many businesses are also opting for hybrid cloud solutions because both public and private clouds by themselves have their limitations. A limitation of public clouds is the loss of control and flexibility your organization has over your servers and data. At the same time, private company networks can be expensive to maintain and difficult to scale.

In a hybrid cloud setup, the organization relies on its own internal servers and infrastructure while taking advantage of the public cloud for less sensitive matters that require extra computing power.

4. Increased Use of Serverless Cloud Technology

Rather than a one-size-fits-all approach, organizations are demanding more of an only-buy-what-you-need structure. Serverless cloud computing enables organizations to only purchase the computing power they need.

Simply put, your applications can be developed and placed into software abstractions referred to as “containers.” It is then the responsibility of the cloud provider to scale up those containers if and when more power is needed.

This approach makes the cloud less complicated and enables greater accessibility to organizations with less networking knowledge.
