SAP NEWSBYTE – March 29, 2010 – The U.S. Army Medical Research and Material Command (MRMC) has gone live across its operations with a medical logistics information system developed and implemented in a coordinated effort with SAP AG (NYSE: SAP). The system, TEWLS Release 2, is based on customized off-the-shelf solutions from SAP.
The project was developed to replace an aging legacy logistics management system, TAMMIS, which was losing its certification to operate on the secured Department of Defense network. TAMMIS was the system used to purchase, store and issue medical supplies to the warfighter in support of wounded soldiers around the world, as well as prepare medical equipment and supplies for the operating floor.
TEWLS has already achieved the following benefits for the U.S. Army:
- Shortened set and kit production stages by 60 percent and set build lead times by 90 percent
- Enabled fully equipped sets and kits to be shipped to all forward surgical teams in Afghanistan and Iraq
- Provided the ability to distribute sets and kits with tailored, clinically relevant equipment, a critical capability as the nature of the battlefield injuries change
The multi-country implementation took place in Germany, Korea, Qatar and the United States, and involved close coordination with the U.S. Army’s large business partners.
