Comprehensive Software Solution Helps Manage Compliance with Federal Firearm Laws, Allowing Federal Firearms Licensees to Focus on Growing Their Business
Epicor Software Corporation, a global provider of industry-specific enterprise software to promote business growth, and Orchid Advisors, the firearm industry’s trusted compliance and operations experts, today announced general availability of the Epicor FFL Compliance Manager™ application to help firearms dealers simplify and streamline the process of complying with today’s complex and evolving gun laws. The solution is designed to automate and simplify the process of capturing, storing and reporting of all the firearm transaction data required by federal agencies.
The U.S. firearms industry is highly regulated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Department of Justice, and other federal agencies. The Gun Control Act of 1968 requires that federal firearms licensees (FFLs) maintain a “bound” book of all of their firearm transactions. Acquisition and Disposition (A&D) recordkeeping can be a tedious, time-consuming and complicated process, and many FFLs struggle to properly maintain their bound books.
Epicor, with assistance from Orchid Advisors, LLC, developed the Epicor FFL Compliance Manager application to reduce the compliance burden on FFLs by automating and streamlining A&D recordkeeping.
The software is designed to streamline transaction entry, reduce non-compliance risk, and quickly and easily generate the necessary reports for ATF inspections or inquiries. Ideal for entities of any size, the solution gives FFLs a comprehensive system to help them stay compliant and serve customers more efficiently.
“The Epicor FFL Compliance Manager tool is rooted in firearms best practices from Orchid Advisors, along with Epicor’s user interface design, business process management and technology expertise. Together, we are able to make it easier for FFLs to deal with the growing list of compliance issues,” said Doug Smith, director of product management and marketing for Epicor.
“Having a Federal Firearms License is not a right. It’s a privilege that must be guarded and respected through careful compliance,” said Jon Rydberg, CEO of Orchid Advisors. “Epicor FFL Compliance Manager software enables firearms businesses through an unparalleled set of software tools and support services for serial number tracking, A&D reporting and ATF compliance.”
Easy to Deploy and Use
Epicor FFL Compliance Manager can be accessed from virtually any device, at any time, and from any location through an Internet connection. This browser-based approach eliminates the need for costly hardware or IT support, and updates can be automated without costly installations as regulations are updated.
The software also features integrated best-practice workflows and internal controls to streamline and simplify aspects of ATF compliance. On-screen guided assistance and tutorials step users through every task – making the solution highly interactive and easy to learn and use. Associates, managers and other users can complete tasks quickly and easily, which results in faster transactions and more satisfied customers.
The software’s kiosk feature gives customers the ability to enter their own ATF Form e4473 on any browser-enabled device. The system then queues up their information for the background check and transfer. Once the transactions are completed, they are immediately available for queries, reports, and inventory checks.
“Maintaining a bound book is a critical part of running a successful firearms business,” said Mike Vause, Sporting Goods Manager, Smith & Edwards Co. “Epicor FFL Compliance Manager automates and manages these tasks so that I can focus on the core elements of my business – such as buying and selling guns, improving customer service and increasing sales. And, to top it off, the software is unbelievably easy to deploy and use!”
