Forbes.com calls workforce development “a top issue” facing higher education

Ellucian® is entering the continuing education and workforce development market to meet the growing need for a solution for higher education institutions to effectively market and administer their non-traditional programs.

About 44 percent of American adults are taking some form of continuing education, according to the U.S. Department of Education. Meanwhile, corporate training is expected to rise to $18 billion in 2014, according to the Education Advisory Board which called the trend an “underexplored funding source.” In addition, Forbes.com cited workforce development as “one of the top issues facing higher education” this year. Despite this demand, the market lacks an effective software solution that delivers the workflow and administrative processes unique to these learners while staying in sync with the institution’s existing student information system (SIS).

Ellucian will deliver its SaaS-based continuing education and workforce development software in 2014. The solution will help institutions manage the unique business rules and administrative processes—including program marketing, course management, and student enrollment—required for non-traditional course offerings. Deep real-time integration to Ellucian’s student information systems will provide three key benefits currently lacking in other solutions:

  • Provide a complete picture of the offerings on campus and the learner who might have more than one role in the institution
  • Preserve an institution’s existing SIS as the system of student record
  • Eliminate the need for additional technology infrastructure and thereby minimize additional IT support

Institutions will also have the option of implementing the software as a stand-alone solution.

Ellucian will bring the solution to market quickly in 2014 by leveraging its recent acquisition of CampusIT.
