Silicon and Alloys Leader Uses Infor M3 to Enable, then Optimize Processes

Infor, the industry cloud company, today announced that Elkem, a world-leading producer of silicon, ferrosilicon, special alloys, carbon, and microsilica has standardized on Infor M3. The Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) application will help support eight production plants in Norway and Iceland as well as international offices, delivering a consistent set of business processes and providing a platform for continuous improvement.

Implemented by Infor partner iStone, Infor M3 will play a crucial role in the Elkem Process Improvement Program, a lean framework focused on boosting the effectiveness of five key areas across Elkem’s operations. Through standardizing on Infor M3, Elkem will minimize variances, then develop a cohesive set of business processes that will be refined as part of a continuous improvement strategy.

“As our business has grown, our applications portfolio has increased,” said Knut-Petter Roland, IT director, Elkem. “This has frustrated consistent reporting from the businesses and inhibited our ability to assess the viability of proposed changes to our processes.  Standardization will not only deliver savings but also reduce risk and enable future change by having one version of the truth.  Infor M3 has also helped us to substantially reduce modifications.  Looking to the future, we plan to integrate our ERP further with production, and to establish an IT platform which enables us to deliver upgrades on a more frequent basis.”

“Specialized industrial companies such as Elkem need robust platforms for growth,” said Einar Broch, sales director for Infor in Norway. “Standardized processes that can reduce the cost and risk are key parts of that strategy but necessitate systems that can deliver consistency and a keen fit to the operational activities of that specific business.”
